North Highlands & Foothill Farms are about 10 miles north of downtown Sacramento. Originally ranch & farmland, North Highland's modern transformation began in 1936 with the creation of McClellan Air Force base. The base became the driving force for the rapid growth of the community, starting around 1952.

Many of the homes in North Highlands & Foothill Farms were built in the 50's, 60's & 70's. This is a family oriented community, with family-occupied households accounting for about 70% of the total number of homes here. When the Air Force base closure was announced in 1995, the facility began its transformation to become the current McClellan Business Park- Californias largest master planned business community - complete with a public airfield, business & industrial facilities, training facilities, corporate housing, hotel, and the Aerospace Museum of California. McClellan is once again the driving force in the North Highland economy.
